Do I Really Need a Multivitamin?

You’ve probably grown up with the mentality that if you take a multi-vitamin everyday that you can eat whatever you want. Or maybe you’ve come to the realization that you need to eat better but you think you don’t need any vitamins or supplements because you eat “healthy”. Well both and neither are the truth. How’s that for confusing you?!

We don’t NEED a multivitamin everyday; there are plenty of people who live long, healthy lives and never take them. But here’s the hard truth: our soil is NOT what it was even 10 years ago. Every single day there is more and more pesticides, chemicals, and other hazardous materials being put into the ground, water, air, and ultimately soil that effect the quality of the food we are putting into our bodies which in turn effects the vitamins and minerals reaching our cells. (How’s that for a run on sentence). In reality, we get all we need from food, when food was perfect and before it was ruined from greed (but that’s a whole other blog post). Even with the most pristine diet, which I highly doubt the majority of you reading this are getting, you STILL aren’t getting enough vital nutrients into your very DNA.

But then there is the other side of it. MOST multivitamins are not really adding any nutritional benefit to your diet. They are loaded with sugar, GMO’s, and synthetic, chemically made “vitamins” that you are literally peeing out and even in some cases can cause harmful side effects. Even if you are taking an organic, whole foods sourced multivitamin, you still may not be needing the majority of the nutrients in it.

So what’s a person to do? This is where the Everyday Green Smoothie comes in. In my opinion, if you start your day with this organic, fresh, vegetable and fruit smoothie: you’ve seriously set yourself up for an energizing, beautifying, boost of enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and lots of other big words that give your body the natural “multivitamin” it needs. When consulting, what I find is MOST people don’t need a multivitamin. Some who are seriously malnourished (and by malnourished I don’t mean having gone without food. I mean malnourished as in consuming the most atrocious, standard American diet there is), may need one, but the majority of people just need single supplements.
